Ifan's Story

Ifan's Story

Born into a big family in Jogjakarta, the 3rd of 10 children, Ifan was sent to live with his Grandmother as a small child as his family did not have the means to support all their children. At the age of 6 Ifan left Jogjakarta with his mother and went to the island of Sulawesi and at the age of 10 or 11 was sent to Lombok where he lived with his uncle in order to attend school for a short time. When he was 15 years old he went to live with his parents in Sumbawa where he stayed until he was 17. He then returned to Lombok and started life on his own.

It was here in Lombok that Ifan met his wife Reni who he has been married to for 18 years, they have 3 children. Their daughter Febi is 17 years old and they have 2 sons Luki and Demas who are 13 and 11 years old.

Life is challenging in a third world country. Ifan works as a tour guide as well as odd jobs; anything to put food on the table for his family. With the huge drop in tourism due to the covid pandemic, his situation is more difficult than ever and he and his family are just trying to survive and get by.

Ifan and Reni are happy but dream of giving their children a better life and education so that their children and future generations have a more secure life and better opportunities.

This is Over the Falls opportunity to give back and make a difference to the lives of others. We would like to help Ifan and Reni realise their dream of a better life for their family. Proceeds from all sales of our Men’s Pearl Necklace will go directly to this beautiful family to assist them in securing their children’s education and opportunities for a secure future.
